Students are encouraged to participate in community service work outside the scope of the Pro Bono Program. Community service work provides an excellent opportunity to connect to the local community and learn outside the classroom.
Citizen Schools' 8th Grade Writing Academy Program
Suffolk University Law School is the first law school in the nation to partner with Citizen Schools to offer community service opportunities for Suffolk Law students, faculty, and administrators to serve as writing coaches for urban middle school students. Citizen Schools is a nonprofit, award-winning organization that started in Boston and is now national. Several large Boston law firms participate in the program, as does the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office. By partnering with Citizen Schools, Suffolk Law links students to this wonderful community service opportunity while simultaneously providing them with the chance to meet and network with attorneys in prestigious Boston law firms and in the Attorney General's Office.
Each year, Citizen Schools publishes an edition of Bridging Magazine, which contains essays penned by Citizen Schools students with the help of their writing coaches.
