How to Become a Prepper Who Can Survive

Could you survive if you were suddenly cut off from the world and your favorite, well-stocked grocery stores? How could you feed your family if you lost your job unexpectedly? Do you have enough money saved to live your golden years in comfort? Many citizens end up without power for weeks at a time after a natural disaster. This country’s power grid is old and vulnerable. Furthermore, think about what would happen if the country was hit by an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) blast?

Whatever your reasons are, there is no better time to start preparing for the future than right now.

The following tips will get you started:

  1. Build a bug-out bag – Collect items that you might need during an emergency situation or evacuation. Do this for every family member. Never just copy an inventory list, as everyone’s needs are different. Do not forget to stock up on medication, personal hygiene products, and stash away some cash. You may need the money when you have no access to a bank or ATM machine.
  2. Put together an emergency and evacuation plan – Prepare an escape route in case you need to leave your home unexpectedly. Know where you are going and how to get there. Ensure that every family member is informed about the plan, because you may not all be together when a disaster strikes. Find a good bug-out location if you cannot count on family and friends to take you in.
  3. Plant a garden – Start small, and expand as you learn. You will make mistakes, but at least they will be behind you by the time you really need to depend on your own food production. Use flower pots or garden containers if you have no spare land. You can also lease a plot, or consider guerrilla gardening. Why not use abandoned properties to produce food the entire community can profit from during emergency situations? Keep chickens, ducks, quail, rabbits, and goats if you have spare land. Stock ponds with fish.
  4. Learn survival skills – Practicing on how to cook without electricity and studying various food preservation methods can keep you alive, as well as knowing how to hunt. The more you can do, the less you depend on others. If you are extremely good at something, you can use those talents to earn extra income. Trade labor for essentials.

There are many other things you can do to become independent. Get out of debt, improve your health, learn basic first-aid, take self-defense classes, develop a support network, and change your mindset.

Understand that the mainstream media and the government are hiding the truth. They know that it is impossible to contain a country-wide panic attack. The fact that you are reading this article is proof that you have doubts. Improve your survival chances by keeping your eyes open and learn how to prep efficiently.

Using Your Glasses For Survival

If you ever get lost in the wilderness, there is a good chance that you won’t have much equipment with you. We made an article a while back about using your phone as a survival tool and today we want to look at using your glasses. You may not like having to wear them but they really can be the difference between life and death.

Well I know of a few survival uses for a pair of glasses but at the end, please feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments and I will get them added to the list.

Making a Fire

If you haven’t heard of this one before, where have you been? Did you ever use a magnifying glass as a kid to burn holes in leaves or torture ants? Well, the lens within your glasses can be used in exactly the same way. They bend the light into a focal point that can then be used to start a fire.

You can also try adding a little water to the lens to further focus the light rays.

Signaling

If you’re lost you want to be found right? Well, your glasses can also be used as a means to signal for help. This method works well when the potential rescuers may be too far to hear you shout but you can direct the beam into their direction.

Create a Knife

With the help of a small rock, you can file down a lens into a knife that has a huge amount of uses in the wilderness. This could then also be attached to a stick and used as a spear for hunting.

Fishing Hook

If you have a pair of glasses that have a wire frame, you can fashion the frames into a hook that you can use for fishing.

Protection From The Elements

The eyes are a very sensitive area and thus need to be protected where possible. Your glasses can protect your eyes from the extreme cold, sun, dust, and other environmental threats.

Well there we have five survival uses for a pair of glasses

Beginning Preppers – The Top Must-Have Items

There is a wide array of information about prepping and a lot of opinions about what the ” ultimate prepper essentials” are out there. As such, it is no surprise that Novice Preppers often end up feeling overwhelmed rather quickly. Sound familiar? Don’t worry. Knowing that you have the knowledge and tools necessary to survive will help you feel more secure in your decision to leave your previous sanctuary behind.

Bugging out is the absolute last resort that you have to consider, when your home may be overrun, or uninhabitable. It’s the last-ditch effort to survive, and you may have to find an alternate location to consider until either thing at your primary shelter cools down, or it can be re-inhabited again. Whatever it may be, you’re here, and its time to learn something!

So without further ado, your top must-have items for new Preppers to bug out with:

  1. LifeStraw Personal Water Filter – Let’s face it unless you have a well at your house your water supply is limited. Even if you store potable water in/around your house, you can only store a finite amount. What happens when the power grid goes down and you have no city water or a well pump, what happens when your supply of water is contaminated? This simple device filters out 99.99+% of bacteria, and its good for filtering up to 1000L of water! Grab a few of these at the cheap price point of $20 each, and stick ’em in your bug out bag, or your preppers cache’s around your home/location!
  2. MRE’s – They taste like crap, but they contain the necessary nutrition to keep you going. They are extremely portable and have a shelf life of up to 5 years if stored below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. These meals are packed full of calories so you have the energy you need to get the job done. They are portioned as individual meals and can be a lifesaver in a situation where food is not plentiful/viable.
  3. A Firearm – One thing a Prepper should never be without is a firearm. One .22 caliber would be preferred in any situation because the ammo is lightweight compared to other calibers and it is also cheaper. However, with the recent gun craze lately due to the Obama Administration, .22LR is very hard to find. I have even had issues locating 9mm ammo. Get what you can while you can, and make sure you have a plan. My preference for bugging out is my Glock 17 for my firearm and my Ruger 22LR. They are both lightweight and portable.
  4. Shelter – When you can no longer stay in your home and you have no other choice but to look elsewhere, shelter is critical. We recommend something small, portable, and viable for carrying long distances. The Emergency Shelter Tent is a great way to have a portable shelter anywhere. It’s extremely lightweight and hardly takes up any space in your gear. In Combination with your shelter, we recommend carrying a few Mylar blankets. These are extremely thin, reflective blankets. They reflect heat back onto your body, and you will be amazed how well they work for being only 1-3 mils thick.

So that does it. These above items cover the critical essentials to any bugout plan — Food, Water, Shelter, Protection, and Fire! These should be used as the building blocks for any prepping arsenal and are considered the bare-bones essentials to survive away from home.

Facts about Vaping Every Smoker Should Know

Facts about Vaping Every Smoker Should Know

It seems that smokers are not that informed and knowledgeable about vaping compared to others. This is unfortunate, though. After all, they are the ones who will possibly enjoy more benefits.

If you are a smoker and you think that you are not yet that familiar with vaping, below are some facts you might want to keep in mind.

Switching to Vaping from Smoking will Help You Save Money

Many smokers check the price of e-cigs then compare this with the cost of a cigarette pack then continue to smoke. Well, this is pretty much understandable. But, this is actually a pricey mistake. A cigarette pack is a disposable item. You purchase them, smoke them, and before you know it, they are gone. Refillable e-cigs are different, though. You purchase them and provided that you have enough liquid supply and replacement parts, you can use refillable e-cigs for months or even years. The initial price of the kit is going to pay for itself in just a matter of days.

Average long term vapers spend as much on new coils and liquid each week as they did on traditional cigarettes in just one day. While it takes some trial and error to identify the flavors and equipment that will work best, you will be able to save money during the first initial months.

E-cigs are Safer Compared to the Tobacco Kind

You surely read numerous times about the claims of e-cigs having the same dangers as smoking. Many journalists said it again and again, often based on shoddy science and it seems that many people actually believe it.

But, this is far from the truth. A detailed study has been conducted on vaping, with pretty decisive conclusion. E-cigs are at least 95 percent safer compared to the old-fashioned type. Most people think that it means that the remaining 5 percent of the users are going to be killed. If it was true, it will still be somewhat impressive. However, there is no evidence that e-cigs can potentially kill anyone. The 5 percent potential risk can include the risk of nicotine addiction. It is unclear that nicotine, once separated from tobacco, is really addictive.

To Switch or To Quit?

There are some people saying that there is no evidence about e-cigs helping smokers quit. There are some who insist that they really do. But, this is a wrong question for you to ask in the first place. Whether you like it or not, it is hard to quit smoking. Many smokers tried doing this more than once. It doesn’t matter if you are using gum or patches, hypnotherapy or the usual cold turkey method because the failure rate is about 95 percent. Most scientists have theories regarding the difficulty of quitting. However, they often miss one important detail. Many smokers don’t have the willingness to quit. They just say they want to quit but deep inside, they don’t mean it. In reality, many smokers continue to smoke because they simply enjoy it.

These are just some of the top facts that smokers should know about vaping.
